The contrast between the city-fortress, reinforced with a mass of solid stone, and the light, transparent, metal and glass structure of the new station, with the park in between, is the typological, formal and structural essence of this solution, which eloquently expresses the functional difference and the distance separating the two projects in time, as well as that gap between the volume of the old station and the wall.
This project strove to be ground-breaking thanks to its constructive language as well as its formal and spatial idiom. At the same time, it aimed to be very respectful of the city of Cádiz and its history, and above all of its future users through its functionality, comfort, wealth of space and simple preservation and maintenance.
One of the determining factors of this space, besides its volume and proportions, is the light that enters through the skylight system installed in the roof, and the large side windows that open out onto the park next to it, providing glimpses of elements of the historic city that are as crucial as the balustrades and the wall.
