This is a building designed to host a set of cultural activities in the fishing village of Llanes. It is located in the geographical centre of the cove of the same name, north of the Ria de Vigo. The building is exceedingly important because of both its function and its size and strategic location on the seafront, making it visible from the city of Vigo, situated on the opposite bank, and from much of the estuary. The appearance of the building was specifically designed to relate to the traditional architecture found on the Galician coast, such as maritime storehouses, boat yards and canneries, and was enriched with the presence of a porch running around the perimeter and covered balconies. Great care was taken in the selection of the type, texture and colour of materials and the interior space and forms. Those that have acquired singular importance include the pink granite ashlars on the front walls of the ground floor and the scallop shells along the top of the front walls, lending the whole building a pearly pink tone and a peculiar ethereal image, and yet the building still exhibits great formal austerity.
